The Adult Volunteer Program is for those 18 years and older who are looking for a unique and fun place to spend their valuable free time. Adult volunteers help bring the museum alive for visitors. They assist in sparking curiosity and igniting a love of lifelong learning by interpreting exhibits for school groups and/or families, facilitating arts and science activities, working behind the scenes in the office, and assisting with the exhibits departments or special events. All that is required is an interest in supporting our mission and spending time with visitors young and old. Volunteers are asked to make a commitment to a minimum of ten hours a month and submit to a background check. Schedules are flexible and no experience is necessary. We will work to match your skills and interests with the needs of the museum.
The following are ways in which you can volunteer:
- Assistant Presenter: Assist with school groups and/or families visiting the museum by enthusiastically interpreting exhibits. Help transform their experience into one they are sure to remember. Must like working closely with kids.
- Extended Education Assistant: Assist with preparation and facilitation of special arts and science projects for Creativity Workshop or Imagination Station.
- Office Support: Assist with clerical/office work such as filing and data entry as well as receptionist duties.
- Demonstrator: Assist with the preparation and presentation demonstrations throughout the museum floor.
- Special Events Staff: Work at our special events including fundraisers and member parties. Mostly evenings; dates will vary and a minimum of five hour shifts are recommended. This is perfect for groups or volunteer organizations.
- Guest Speakers Bureau: Do you have an interesting career, talent or hobby? Share it with our visitors, staff, and volunteers.
- Exhibit Assistant: Work with the exhibits department to repair, maintain and relocate, when necessary, exhibits.
- Seamstress: Seeking volunteers to help us sew new costumes and repair existing costumes used at our performing arts stage. We can provide the fabric and even a few machines available for handy craftsters who can help us create new costumes for our patrons.
